sIFR is not dead at all. For legal issues Cufon can only be used on a very small handful of fonts. sIFR is very important and will be for a long time since Adobe has a legal team that has fought hard to make embedding basically any font in a swf legal.

Our e-mail and calendaring system, which supports 3000+ users, has uptime > 99.999% ( At one point it was 99.9995 but we had a bunch of power outages that killed us dead. ) Its running GroupWise 7 on NetWare 6.5.8. This is a non-clustered non-HA environment. It takes about 2 minutes to reboot the box, and about 1 for the services and OS to re-load. So 70% of our downtime is, in fact, the BIOS.

Typically we have to do one of these cold boots / year. A warm boot, where the OS exits and then immediately reloads is possible, and that takes under 90 second on this hardware ( which is nothing special, typical HP pizza box server. )

5-9's is not hard to achieve when you use reliable code.

Certainly 4-9's is easily achievable for most systems for which a recovery is not required / often necessary. And with GW, at least, there are 3rd party products which make a hot standby server easy to create. But we don't use those.... there is no requirement for 5-nines for these systems. Clustering also allows for sub-3 minute failover of services on shared storage.

%99.999 is easy to achieve if you don't have to reboot the box every other tuesday to patch components you don't use, but are present by fiat.

The same works in favor of Linux, where you can strip down the OS to the kernel and the applications. Don't need a GUI? No problem. Not using print services? No problem. With OSX and Windows, so much of the OS is the fenestrations, you end up havinbg to apply patches for things that you don't use to float your services. Andf less code means less code to go wonky, be attacked, need updating, ......

Virtuallization is another factor. ANY OS will boot 2-3 x faster on a virtual platform because there is no POST, SCSI probing, ...... so even Windows will boot in 30 seconds. And that is a great help to super-tuesday reboots - which can really eat into the uptime. So for most Windows servers you can get close to 99.99 easily, and Linux / NetWare you can achieve higher uptime values by managing the obligatory patch related reboots.

In my case I have to show Japanese character on the page and to be saved into database. I've tried with filter but it doesn't work out although it's going to filter class but the charachter are still in ?? format. Could someone help me? Thanks in advance.

I don't think you should apologise for asking his contact details, I think it's a British way of going about things...but this is business!

I'd gone with Escrow, let him send you the files first and then pay money in full to get the domain sent over after.

Normally he'd pay the fees too, since his preference is Paypal...I could of been the middleman on this and saved you a pretty penny!

I am trying to be clever(ish) and use your script to generate a list of ALL post titles on a single page (possibly even include the contents of the description meta-tag as a snippet.

However pasting the php into a new WP generated page just gets rendered as text. Do you know a way around this WP?

I can't believe WP does not have this kind of feature by default - the only thing users can do is list the entire post content for categories but I just wan the more user friendly title/description tag.
